Bernadette Lucero attended San Felipe de Neri Catholic School in Old Town through eighth grade. She graduated from West Mesa High School and went on to play Women’s Golf for the University of New Mexico (UNM). She graduated from UNM with a bachelor’s degree in English and the Romance Languages. She continued her education and acquired two master’s degrees.
She began her career in teaching 32 years ago in the public school system. She taught seventh and eighth Language Arts at Los Lunas Middle School for thirteen years. After she obtained her administration license, she then moved to Albuquerque Public Schools where she worked as an Assistant Principal at Painted Sky ES and Chaparral ES. She then became an Instructional Manager for Special Education preschool and at the Southwest Diagnostic Center. Using her experience in Special Education, she then became a Senior Director of Special Education for Preschool, Evaluations and Related Services. Her final position at APS was as an Executive Direct of Evaluation and Related Services when she retired.
Throughout her administrative career, she always missed teaching, and it was a simple decision to seek a teaching position with the Archdiocese of Santa Fe as she loves the practice of teaching religion within the school setting and the beauty of attending Mass.
Ms. Lucero enjoys reading, traveling the world, and spending time with her family in her spare time.
Fun fact: Her father graduated from St. Mary’s School in 1963.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
